The Account of Silence

The Account of Silence.A high-contrast, textured ink-wash illustration in a dramatic Bronx Neo-Noir graphic novel style. A low-angle view shows an empty concrete loading dock with a completely closed corrugated metal bay door at midnight. A single industrial bulb hangs above, casting a sharp cone of light onto the cracked concrete platform while deep charcoal cross-hatched shadows envelop the surrounding brick warehouse walls. The scene is completely still and empty of people under a dark slate-blue sky with faint rain lines.

The Account of Silence

I didn’t leave because I stopped caring.

I left because I finally calculated the cost.

For years, I gave away my hours, my focus, my peace —

treating my own energy like an endless well.

You called my absence a betrayal.

I called it a forensic audit of my remaining days.

You count the doors I locked.

I count the years I left them wide open.

And that is why we will never agree on the value of the key.
